Pastor Howard was a man of immense strength and unwavering work ethic. For many years, he navigated the open roads as a professional truck driver, specializing in hauling liquid nitrogen and other hazardous materials. His career was marked by precision and dedication, and he remained a hard worker in the industry until his well-earned retirement.
Above all, Pastor Howard was a man of God who believed in God Almighty and the power of salvation. He was a saved and dedicated servant whose life’s mission was reaching souls and leading people to Christ. In 1992, he and his beloved wife co-founded Crusaders for Christ Outreach Ministries. As the visionary leader of the ministry for 34 years, he remained a steadfast pillar in the community, eventually establishing the church at its current location on Houston Avenue in Macon. Pastor Howard balanced the demands of the road with the needs of his congregation, never wavering in his assignment. He remained active in his calling and dedicated to his outreach until the very end.
He found great joy in describing the wonders of Heaven, often speaking of the streets of gold and the glory of the kingdom. He stood firmly on the promise of John 14:2: "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." He lived his life with the glorious expectation of that mansion, always reminding those around him that "we are living to live again."
Pastor Howard was also a profound lover of gospel music. From the classic hymns to the contemporary sounds of Commissioned and Fred Hammond, he was never confined to a box when it came to praise. While he appreciated a nice rhythm, it was the beauty of holiness and the power of the message that truly drew the big picture for him; he believed the words of a song could transcend and touch the very soul.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and co-founder, Evangelist Ethel Mae Howard, whom he loved and cared for with deep devotion until her passing. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Edward W. Howard Sr. and Ella Mae Goolsby Howard, and several of his siblings.
The legacy of Pastor Howard’s faith, strength, and love will be cherished by his children: Jesse Whipple Jr. (Hillary), Alton B. Whipple (Sharesa), Adrian Howard, Dr. Jonathan Howard (Erin), Katrina Howard, and Enoch Howard. He is survived by his last remaining sibling, his brother Oscar Howard, and his devoted sisters-in-law, Minister Sylvia Glenn and Prophetess Betty Jean Dennard, with whom he shared a bond of deep friendship and sisterly love. His memory also lives on through a multitude of precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with an abundance of loving nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives were transformed through the ministry of Pastor Floyd Howard and the doors of Crusaders for Christ Outreach Ministries.
