

George Mitchell Bowen, 74, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. A Celebration of his life will be held on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Tim Long officiating. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. in Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Those who wish may make donations to First Evangelical Church Youth Ministries, 3601 Fulton Mill Road, Macon GA 31206. The family has requested the members of the Lanier Luncheon Group sit as an honorary group.
George was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late Harold Alex and Sara Kathryn Fambro Bowen. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Mitchell Stephen and Addie Guthrie Bowen and George Thomas and Eunice Collier Fambro. George was preceded in death by his first wife, Reba Lillian Comer Bowen. He was a 1959 graduate of Lanier High School for Boys and was active in the Lanier Luncheons Group. George served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserves. He was employed with Joseph N. Neels Company for twenty years as a men’s clothing buyer. George was co-owner of Bowen Brothers Clothiers with his brother, Harry Bowen for thirty two years and retired March 23, 2009.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Doolittle Bowen of Macon, brother; Harry Stephen (Elaine) Bowen of Macon, nephew; Todd and niece; Tracy, brother-in-law; Skippy (Carole) Reeves of Deland, FL, stepsons; Steve Dwayne (Brenda) Bond, of Gray, Ralph Stevens Doolittle, III of Macon, Lane Barclay (Robin) Doolittle of Monroe, grandchildren; Steve Dwayne (Lisa) Bond, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Mallory Amanda Doolittle of Seneca, SC, Robert Shaw Doolittle of Macon, Joseph Graham Doolittle, Catherine Grace Doolittle, Rebekah Ruth Doolittle, and Timothy Stevens Doolittle all of Monroe.
