

James Arthur McDowell, 88, of Byron passed away Saturday morning at his residence, two days after the death of his beloved wife, Mrs. Alice Lorene Bray McDowell. A celebration of their lives will be held Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Faith Tabernacle in Byron. The Rev. David Yancey and the Rev. Joseph Yancey will officiate . Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery in Macon.
Mr. McDowell was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the son of the late James M. McDowell and the late Geneva Hewett McDowell. He was a veteran of the U. S Marine Corps having served during World War II. Mr. McDowell was a member of Faith Tabernacle in Byron. He was retired from Robins Air Force Base.
Mr. McDowell is survived by his children, Jim McDowell, Linda McDowell and Nancy McDowell all of Oklahoma, his brothers and sisters; Helen Rogers of Oklahoma, Jessie DuVall of Kansas, Jean Melton of Tennessee, Bessie Grumbine of Arkansas, John McDowell of Oklahoma, his step sons; Harvey J. (Joyce) Bray, Jr. of Macon, William Lloyd Bray of Byron, and Gary L. (Wanda) Bray of Macon, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Fred McDowell, and 2 brothers; David McDowell and Paul McDowell.

Alice Lorene Bray McDowell, 85, entered into her Eternal Rest on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday at Faith Tabernacle in Byron with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. David Yancey and the Rev. Joseph Yancey will officiate. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Saturday at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Mrs. McDowell, daughter of the late James Leroy and Alice Sutton Cobb, was born in Quitman and had lived in this area most of her life. She was retired from Maxon’s Ordnance Plant and was a member of Faith Tabernacle. Mrs. McDowell was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey Bray, two sons, David Bray and Mark Bray, a brother, James P. Cobb and two sisters, Margaret Sexton and Carolyn Coley.
Survivors include her husband, James Arthur McDowell of Byron; three sons, Harvey J. (Joyce) Bray, Jr. of Macon, William Lloyd Bray of Byron and Gary L. (Wanda) Bray of Macon; eight grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; her sister, Barbara Smith of Jeffersonville; three brothers, Amos Cobb of Macon, Clyde Cobb of Danville and Cecil Cobb of Byron and several nieces and nephews.
