James E. Gordon, 91, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Dixon United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Matthew Yarbrough and Dr. Nita Crump will officiate. The family will greet friends from 5 until 7 PM Monday at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Dixon United Methodist Church, 6637 Sandy Point Road, Lizella 31052 or the Methodist Home for Children & Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon 31204.
Mr. Gordon was born in Crawford County, the son of the late Eslie Merritt Gordon and Millard Gordon. He was a United States World War II Army veteran, having served in the South Pacific and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Gordon retired as senior board mill foreman of Armstrong World Industries. He loved gardening, working on old cars, and was a good neighbor. Mr. Gordon was a devoted member of Dixon United Methodist Church.
Mr. Gordon is survived by his wife of 72 years, Minnie Lee Chapman Gordon of Macon; daughters, Linda (Jimmy) Walton of Ft. Valley, Patsy (Steve) Rece of Canton, GA; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
