

James Birl McCook, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 10, 2016. A Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Danny Lyles, Rev. Len Woodard and Rev. Robert Webb officiating. The family will greet friends with a reception from 12:30 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.
James was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Melvin and Grace McCook. He was preceded in death by his wife Jewel Dean Gillis McCook and his daughter, Heather Watwood. James served in the United States Air Force and was retired from the Macon Bibb County Fire Department as a Lieutenant. He was a member of United Community Church and was very active in Gospel Music for many years. James sang with several quartets, “Senators Quartet”, “Camp Meetin Boys”, “Travelers Quartet” and “The Songsman Quartet”. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle.
He is survived by his son, Dennis McCook (Maxine Redd) of Macon, brother, Raymond (Gale) McCook of Macon, sister, Margaret Justice of Ocean Springs, MS, son-in-law, Shayne Watwood of Putnam County, grandchildren, Tiffany (Jason) Burgess of Forsyth, Dusty McCook of Milledgeville, Zack Watwood of Milledgeville, Haylee Bateman of Cottage Grove, OR, great granddaughter, Emma Ray Burgess of Forsyth, and several nieces and nephews.
