James Virgil "Jimmy" Turner 9/13/1930 - A proud fan of Georgia Tech, Jimmy served in the Korean War with honor, and afterwards moved to Macon where he owned Industrial Welding Supply. During his 35-year career, he held the highest integrity in business leadership. He retired at age 55 and truly made every moment count! After Barbara passed, he chose to move to Peachtree City to be close to Michael and Karen where he enjoyed life at Arbor Terrace Independent Living.
Jimmy and Barbara Andrews Turner were married for 71 years and raised three sons: Jim (Paige) of Macon, Michael (Karen) of Peachtree City, and Joe, who preceded his father in death. He taught his sons to be humble gentlemen, to be industrious, to honor their Mother, to love their family. He instilled values, listened, and always allowed others to share their opinions before he shared his own. We will be forever grateful for his calm and level-headed presence. In the early years, he formed the first Boy Scout Troup at Forest Hills United Methodist Church, and tirelessly drove teens skiing on Lake Sinclair most weekends where the family enjoyed a lake retreat. He was instrumental in organizing the Macon Bridge Club, played golf with a foursome of friends, enjoyed laughing and telling stories, and helped everyone in every way possible. One of his favorite pastimes was framing the artwork that Barbara painted throughout their lives. He was indeed proud of her collection! Travel played an enormous part of his and Barbara's lives. Always eager to explore new places, Jimmy enjoyed planning trips around the world. Whether it be locally or internationally, he was "always ready to go!" He and Barbara provided their entire family annual vacations (later years were Alaska, Italy, anywhere that sounded exciting!) They both took great pleasure in many beach and mountain retreats with Michael and Karen, Calloway Garden trips with the Goode's ... he loved them all! During his years in Peachtree City, a special treat was son Jim visiting once a month from Macon for lunch!
Jimmy leaves a permanent mark on the lives and hearts of so many. Wise, extremely patient and generous, he will be missed by many! We were blessed to have him guide us through life! We take solace knowing he is with the love of his life, eternally in Heaven. "Grandad" is also survived by 4 grandchildren; Logan (Pat) Mulligan of Alpharetta, Max (Akari) Turner of Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Taylor (Claire) Turner of NC, and Michala (Austin) Eppley of NC. His granddaughter, Alicia, will be united with him in Heaven. Jimmy held a special place for his 9 great-grandchildren; Collins & William Mulligan, JT Cole, Emma, Leo & Roy Turner, Lillian & Harlow Turner, Josephine Eppley.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Forest Hills Church with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Rev. Tammy Humphries will officiate. Burial will be private for family only in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
We thank you, Sir, for your service to this Nation and this Family!
