Jean H. Harris

Jean Harkness Harris, 87, formerly of Macon, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Gardens of Roswell Assisted Living and Memory Care. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Dianne Sweckard officiating. The family will meet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1217 Forest Hills Road, Macon GA 31210 or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Serving as pallbears will be Matthew Whiting, Jason Kolacz, Aubrey Chamberlain, J.C. Parham, Kendall Harris and Tommy Sherwood.

Mrs. Harris, the daughter of the late Charles S. Harkness and Susie Mae Harkness, was born on July 18, 1927 in Forsyth, GA. She was married to A.T. “Artie” Harris for 56 wonderful years. She was a longtime resident of Macon who loved her Lord, loved her church, and loved her family. Mrs. Harris was a charter member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Grace Bible Class and the Dorcas Women’s Circle. She devoted her life to making a loving home for her husband and her children. She enjoyed many activities with her church friends and her bridge clubs and travel with friends and family.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Robert Benson of Decatur, son and daughter-in-law, Toby and Susan Harris of Suwanne, three granddaughters, Shannon Benson Whiting (husband Matthew) Sandy Springs, Amanda Harris Kolacz (husband Jason) of Mabelton, and Michelle Harris Chamberlain (husband Aubrey) of Woodstock; five great grandchildren, Sam and Laney Whiting, Jason Kolacz, and Toby and Cooper Chamberlain; brothers-in-law, Robert Harris of Forsyth and W.C. Harris of Macon, and many, many, nieces and nephews.
