

Margaret Amerson Hartness, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, October 17, 2014. Graveside services will be held Monday, October 20, 2014 in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:00 pm with Rev. Creede Hinshaw officiating. The family will greet friends Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, 719 Mulberry St., Macon 31201, or Macon Outreach at Mulberry, 267 1st St., Macon 31201.
Mrs. Hartness was born in Macon, Georgia on July 13, 1920 to the late Pearl Stewart and Grover Cleveland Amerson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cochran Hartness, Sr., son, William “Bill” Hartness, and sisters, Thelma Epps and Frances Nettles. She was a graduate of A.L. Miller High School and the owner of Hartness Rentals as well as the bookkeeper for Whitehead Brothers Construction, where she worked until the age of 87. Mrs. Hartness was a former member of Log Cabin Baptist Church and a current member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, where she was active until she was no longer able to attend. She was a meticulous and organized person who loved her garden club, crafts, cooking, and baking, and was especially known for her delicious cheese straws and fudge.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha (Jimmy) Rutherford of Hiawassee; daughter-in-law, Amy Hill Hartness; grandchildren, Bryan Hartness of Atlanta, Mindy Hartness, Mary Worley, Charlie Hartness, and Sam Hartness; four great grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
