

Macon – Marshall (Neil) Mumford passed away July 23, 2011. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Jarred Hammet will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Mumford was the son of the late John Cecil Mumford and Ruby Lanier Barnes Mumford. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Peggy) Mumford, his son, Rod Mumford and grandson, Marshall Brooks. Mr. Mumford served his country in the United States Marine Corps uring WWII and Korea in the 2nd Armored Amphibian Division seeing combat in Saipan and Iwo Jima in the Pacific, and later joined the Marine CorpsLeague #970. He later went on to retire from the Macon Post Office with over 36 years of service. Mr. Mumford was a member of Northminister Presbyterian Church and was a member of Ft. Hawkins Masonic Lodge #418 F&AM for over 50 years. He went on to join the Al Sihah Shrine and the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed many activities including being a Scout Master and Sunday Shool teacher. He was active with Habitat for Humanity where he was involved with over 40 houses. Mr. Mumford was also the past president of The Woodworkers Association and the Golden E.
Survivors include his wife Clarice Hartley Mumford; daughter Jeanie Porcel (Nick); son Glenn Mumford; cousin, Connie Warren of Fayetteville, GA; grandchildren, Summer Meriwether (Ricky West), Heather Brooks, and Josh Mumford; great grandchildren, Hunter West, Sam West, Leah Brooks.
