Mrs. Hortman was predeceased in death by her sons: Madison Hortman and Blake Hortman.

Judy Hortman was a graduate of Gordon Military College in Barnesville, Georgia. She received many certifications in nutrition while employed by the Bibb County Department of Education for twenty years as dietitian. She worked at Winship, Alexander II, Riley and the Butler Center. During her employment as dietitian at the Butler Center, she enjoyed working with the mentally challenged students, feeding individual students and training students to load a dishwasher for possible future employment.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, affectionately known as “Granny” to all, she touched and influenced many lives through the years. She doted on her own grandchildren, as well as their friends. Her faith was an inspiration for others, as she exhibited love and care for others through taking food to the sick or elderly and making phone calls to check on friends and family. She was a faithful member of Bellevue Baptist Church before her illness. For many years she taught Sunday School for the mentally challenged at Second Baptist Church.
