Michael “Mike” Eugene Pettis, 73, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024 the world lost a devoted son, brother, husband and friend. Michael, Mike, sometimes known as “Pete”, was best described as a man’s man. He loved and was loved by many. His contagious laughter, smile, smirks, and humor will be missed by those he is waiting to see again.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Snow’s @ Macon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to service time. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mike was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Joseph and Louise Simmons Pettis. He was a graduate of Willingham High School President Class of 1969. Mike was a diehard University of Georgia football fan and was often clad in the team colors and the G. He lived to fish, even when it was freezing cold. He loved the outdoors and was a forester at heart his entire adult life. Mike also had a love-hate relationship with gardening (he loved to plant, nurture, watch it grow and reap the results. He hated it when it did not yield when or how he wanted.). Mike thoroughly loved his music, whether listening with friends, having it play in the background or attending in person live concerts. He was planning on attending the Fab Four October 11th in Macon.
Mike grew up in Macon, and while his residence took him to foreign lands like Albany Georgia, Forsyth and Ellerslie, he was always Macon born and raised and considered Macon his home.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Barbara E.(Burge) Pettis of Albany, sister, Ruthann Arnold (Kirk), and his beloved Dakota and Montana- his canine babies.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to St Jude Children’s Research, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia, Forgotten Coast Sea Turtle Center, or a charity of your choice.
As a result of being an organ donor, four people will be seeing the world through the eyes of Mike Pettis.
