

Dr. Michael J. Prewett, 67, passed away January 14, 2015, from a heart attack. Mike, a resident of Bolingbroke, GA was born in Norman, OK to the late Nancy Napier Prewett and Dr. Clinton Roosevelt Prewett, but spent most of his childhood in Eastern NC where he enjoyed fishing and duck hunting with his brothers.
He was a graduate of East Carolina University and obtained his Ph.D in clinical psychology from the University of Georgia. He served as Chairman of the Psychology Department at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, GA and was Head of the Division of Psychology and Behavioral Science for Mercer University School of Medicine for 8 years. He also taught at Georgia College, Western Carolina University, and East Carolina University Medical School. He was in private practice in Macon for 8 years. He was a member of Martha Bowman Memorial UMC and the Koinonia Sunday School class. Mike loved to teach and spent many years coaching recreational baseball and softball in Macon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Stephen Prewett. Mike is survived by his wife, Diane S. Mize Prewett, two children, Matt (Kim) Prewett of Mt. Pleasant, MI and Amy Prewett of Midlothian, VA; two stepchildren, Lindsay Mize of Valrico, FL and Ashley (Brandon) Alderman of Atlanta, GA, 3 grandsons, a brother, David (Julia) Prewett of Atlanta, GA and a sister-in-law and nephew, Rebecca and Alex Prewett of Jasper, TX.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Martha Bowman Memorial UMC on Bass Road at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tim Steffen officiating. The family will greet visitors from 10-11 a.m. in the gathering area of the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Refurbishing Campaign of Martha Bowman Church.
