Richard E. Metzger, age 81, of Macon, Georgia passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021 with family by his side. His life will be celebrated on Saturday, December 11, 2021 in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery, led by Chaplain Annette Higdon. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, December 10 from 6 until 8 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Metzger was born on June 4, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Edward Charles and Marguerite Lillian Schmidt Metzger. He was educated in Ohio and ultimately settled into the Macon area in the early 1980's. Mr. Metzger was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working with his hands at carpentry and various woodworking tasks. He was a veteran of the US Navy and the US Air Force. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Johnnie Lou "Pinky" Hatfield Metzger, and his sister, Joyce Ann Baughman. He will be remembered for his loving firmness as a big hearted and generous man. A great and loving father, he always saw that his children were well taken care of.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Adair M. Avera (Tria), Greg M. Metzger (Tina), R. Timothy Metzger (Cory); grandchildren, Travis L. Metzger, D. Harley Hite, Angel Hite Griffith, Janie Grace Metzger, Montgomery Jo Avera; 6 great grandchildren and other extended family.
