Born on May 30, 1945, in Atlanta, Georgia, Bishop Davis dedicated his life to faith,
family, and service. A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, gifted
communicator, and lifelong minister, he lived with purpose and conviction. He was the
epitome of a pastor—kind-hearted, wise, and always ready to share both truth and
insight.
He began preaching with his first revival on his spring break at the age of 16. Once he
completed High School, he began his full-time ministry as an evangelist. He received
his first credential with the United Pentecostal Church International at the age of 18. It
was during these years, while preaching a revival in Flint, MI, that he had his first
encounter with Greta Carol Ruff. He said that night, “I’m going to marry that girl!” They
dated approximately two months before tying the knot on May 21, 1966.
Bill and Greta continued their travels around the country for the next five years before
settling in Macon, GA, to plant a new church called Calvary Tabernacle. This church
was later renamed The World of Faith Ministries and took on a new vision and mission
under his leadership. As founder and Pastor of The World of Faith, he served that
congregation for 54 years. During his 50 plus years, he led the church to purchase two
different properties and spearheaded five building programs.
A man of deep faith, Bishop Davis devoted his entire life to full-time ministry. Through
the years of pastoral leadership, his dynamic ministry of the Word blessed hundreds of
congregants that he pastored, and countless thousands around the country and
overseas. He was a friend to young preachers and an inspiration to seasoned
preachers. Whether in the pulpit, through the written word, or one-on-one in
conversation, he was a teacher and leader whose influence reached far and wide. He
authored numerous books—including western fiction as well as inspirational and
theological works—that reflected both his storytelling gift and spiritual insight.
Bishop Davis was known for his impeccable style—always well-dressed—and for his
love of collecting fine watches and writing instruments. His commanding presence, strong
voice, and wisdom will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Due to declining health, he chose to retire in January of 2025 and spent his remaining
months with his bride. He is survived by his beloved wife, Greta Davis; his children:
William E. “Trey” Davis, III (Greta), Scott J. Davis (Lori), and Anna D. Reese (Coley);
and his cherished grandchildren: Carter Davis, Miles Davis, Harrison Davis, Logan
Davis, Travis Reese, Trevor Reese, Parker Reese, Tayler Johnston, and John David
Judd.
Bishop Davis is also survived by his sisters: Diane Busby (Rev. Sterling Busby), Cheryl
White (Rev. Troy White), and Connie Peacock; and by his nephews: William “Billy”
White and family, Jonathan White and family, Allen Shurley and family, and Chris
Shurley and family.
He was preceded in death by his father, William E. “Bill” Davis, Sr., and his mother,
Marion Huffman Davis.
