Anthony (Tony) Palmer of Marblehead, MA passed away peacefully at home with his wife Elizabeth (Lisa) by his side on February 11, 2013. Tony and Lisa, married on a boat in Marblehead Harbor in 1997, were blessed with over 15 years of marriage. A devoted husband, their favorite times together included boating and travelling - especially to Italy, Tony’s favorite destination in the world.
A devoted father and grandfather, Tony is also survived by his son John Palmer and his wife Amy of Mill Valley, CA, his son David Palmer of Atlanta, GA, 4 grandchildren (Katherine, Jennifer, Spencer and Alex), and 3 great grandchildren (Jonathan, Lucas and Nathan). Tony was formerly married to Mary J. Palmer of Sarasota, FL.
Born and raised in Schenectady, NY, he attended Mt. Pleasant High School and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He joined the Navy in 1946 at age 17 and sailed around the world on a Goodwill Tour following the end of World War II.
Tony worked as a metallurgical engineer in quality control for General Electric, primarily in the aircraft engine division, before his retirement. An avid sailor and racer, he was never so happy as when he was out on the water, with the sole exception of time spent with his family. Tony was generous in every way, fun-loving, a fantastic cook, and had a heart full of love for children. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at the Grace Community Church, 17 Pleasant Street, Marblehead on Saturday, February 23 at 11AM. Visiting hours will be held at the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead on Friday from 4-7PM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Project Bread at 145 Border St, East Boston, MA 02128-1903.
