

Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Brennan) Powers, 99 years old, of Marblehead died peacefully, Friday April 8, 2016 at the Lafayette Nursing Home in Marblehead. She was the devoted wife of the late Norman W. “Peanut” Powers with whom she shared 68 years of marriage. Born and raised in Salem she was the daughter of the late John D. Brennan and Elizabeth (Hollaran) Brennan.
She was a graduate of Saint James High School and Salem Commercial School. She worked for many years as a popular teachers aide in the Marblehead Elementary School system.
Betty enjoyed traveling and made many trips to Bermuda, England and Ireland. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Star of the Sea Church and was active on many church committees.
She is survived by her sons, John W. Powers and his wife Susan and Norman “Terry” Powers and his companion Nancy. Five grandchildren, Debbie, Lisa, Shannon, Dawn and Matt and eight great grandchildren, her brother Thomas Brennan and many nieces and nephews.
A private funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church followed by burial at Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead on Friday, April 15th. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Marblehead Council on Aging. Arrangements by Eustis and Cornell of Marblehead.
