Frank A. Thorn, 85, a resident of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 15, 2012. Frank, who was the son of Frank A. Thorn and Kathleen Noah Thorn, was raised in Grosse Pointe, MI.
Frank graduated from the University of Detroit High School. He subsequently received his BA and MBA in Business Administration from the University of Michigan. During World War II, Frank served in the Pacific in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Rockingham.
Frank grew up sailing on the Great Lakes and raced the Mackinac race 25 consecutive years before moving his family to Marblehead, MA in 1968.
Frank had an outstanding 36-year business career as an executive with the General Electric Company specializing in Employee Relations (Human Resources).
Frank was a member of the Board of Directors at Eastern Bank in Lynn, MA. His interests included sailing, skiing, and golf. In Naples, Frank played golf at the Royal Poinciana Golf Club. He was also an avid reader.
Frank was very devoted to his family. Frank will be remembered for his generosity, warmth, kindness, and smile. His presence and memories of him will remain in our hearts forever and he will be profoundly missed.
Frank leaves his wife, Carol, as well as three children, Genevieve of Charlestown, MA, Frank of Marblehead, MA, and Donald of St. Clair Shores, MI. Frank is also survived by his four sisters, Mary K. Thorn, Sally A. McIntosh, Jane A. Bicsak, and Joan M. Garvey.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish, 85 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead, MA with internment to follow at Waterside Cemetery. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at St. William’s Parish in Naples, FL. A family mass will be held at Saints Faith, Hope, and Charity in Winnetka, IL in early June 2013.
