

Helen “Sunny” Murray of Marblehead, age 90, intrepid walker, former Boston tour guide and friend to many young and old, died July 18. She leaves behind two brothers, Roland Joyce of Falmouth MA and David Joyce of Nashua NH and a sister Patricia Wiese of Shelburne VT as well as two nephews and a niece. Sunny was born on February 21, 1926 to Dr. Roland J. Joyce and Mary Joyce, in Nashua New Hampshire. She attended Nashua High School and Bradford Junior College. In 1948, she married the love of her life, Jack Murray and lived with him in Boston, Marblehead, Simsbury, CT and Pocasset, MA until his death in 1985. She was a proud member of the Doric Dames and was recognized with the 1,000 Hour Award for her years of service in the Massachusetts State House. Building on her knowledge of history and love of meeting new people, she founded her own business, Massachusetts Then And Now and provided tours of Boston and surrounding areas to people from all over the world. She loved spending time in Boston and could often be found enjoying her favorite lobster pizza at Biba, or a martini at the Ritz. In 1994, she returned to Marblehead where she enjoyed daily walks and meeting friends over coffee at Java Sun or a hamburger at the Boston Yacht Club. A service in celebration of her life will be held at Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave. Marblehead, MA at 10:00 Monday, July 25th.
