Henry Benson “Ben” Whitmore - Cheers to Ben - Let’s celebrate his life and all the friends and family he enjoyed through his 90 years. If someone asks “How are you?” Just say “Terrible Thanks”... “Terrible Good, that is"! His many achievements include a career as an architect with Shepley Bullfinch; many years as proprietor of The Pipe Dream; the honor to be selected a Marblehead Couple of the Year with his wife June; the fun of arriving on the lobster boat at State Street Landing as Marblehead's Santa; and, most importantly, the ability to be a friend to anyone in town.
Ben died peacefully at home thanks to an amazing and dedicated team of caregivers and loving attentive neighbors. Ben was born October 16, 1923 in Salem, MA, the third son of Rosamond (Benson) and John T. Whitmore. He is predeceased by his parents, his wife June Daley Whitmore, his adored friend and partner Marian B. Dennis, a son Henry B. "Chip" Whitmore, Jr., and a brother John "Jack" Whitmore. Ben leaves behind a son David T. Whitmore and his wife Melissa of Wallingford, Vermont; grandchildren Elizabeth Whitmore Amaro and her husband David of Fort Hood, Texas, Sarah Whitmore Hines and her husband Christopher of Norwell, David A. Whitmore and his wife Nicole of Beverly, Raymond Janney and his wife Samantha of Marblehead, Macleod Janney of Rutland, Vermont, Gregory Janney and fiancée Lauren Deck of Marblehead and eight great-grandchildren. Ben is also survived by a brother William T. Whitmore and his wife Ginny of Marshfield, eight nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews.
Please raise your glass and give back to him one of his favorite toasts… “Here’s to it and here’s to it again. If you ever get to it and don’t do it, I hope you never get to it to do it again!”
Friends and family are invited to stop by his home on Saturday, March 15th between 11:00 and 3:00 to share memories and stories of a man well-loved and a life well-lived.
