MARBLEHEAD – Jacqueline Anne Lewis, age 55, of Marblehead Massachusetts, passed away on Tuesday March 8, 2022. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Lorraine (Monzo) Janischek. She was the devoted mother of Evan and Anjelina Lewis, the dear sister of Denise (Michael O’Connor) and the late Lisa Janischek, cherished aunt of Dana and Brandon O’Connor and half sister to Mark Rubin, Cara and Jack Janischek.
Jacqui grew up in Philadelphia and was awarded a volleyball scholarship to Penn State, having graduated from Roxborough High School with the class of 1984. A gifted entrepreneur, she set up her first travel company from her college dorm room which kickstarted a meteoric rise to success. She conquered the travel industry for the rest of her career, earning multiple accolades and finding great joy in doing work which she loved. She was a leader, mentor, friend and inspiration to many, always believing the potential in those around her, even before they knew they had it in themselves. Above all else, Jacqui’s proudest achievement was in raising and empowering her two beautiful children. She loved to travel and nurtured that spark in her wider family and many friends, who made lifelong memories together across the globe.
A force of nature, Jacqui shone brightly and made an enormous impact, trailblazing personally, professionally and even when faced with overwhelming challenges. In March 2020, as the world was shutting down, Jacqui was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) and given a very poor prognosis. Determined to change the course of her future and of all those facing rare cancers, she launched The Rare Initiative; a non-profit partnership with Mass General Hospital with the goal of raising at least $1million towards rare cancer research. Always driven by love and forever helping others in need, The Rare Initiative is just one page of her remarkable legacy. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Visiting hours for Jacqui will be held Sunday, March 13, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Monday, March 14, 2022 from 9:30 a.m to 10:30 a.m at Eustis & Cornell of Marblehead, 142 Elm Street.
