

James E. Marks, 79, of Marblehead, passed away peacefully in his 79th year at his home in Marblehead on July 27, 2013. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 45 years, Shirley (Coffin) Marks. Born in 1934 in Lynn, MA, Jim was the son of the late James and Margaret Marks.
He graduated from Lynn English High School in 1951 and received a BA in History from Boston University in 1955. Jim was an active participant in the Lynn political landscape during the 60’s. He was a proud member of the McDonough Square Associates in West Lynn. Jim was for many years CEO of Seymour Chevrolet in Cambridge until its sale to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Jim along with his wife, Shirley enjoyed over 40 winters in Naples, Florida where they were members of the Naples Yacht Club and the Royal Poinciana Golf Club. Summers were spent in their much loved Marblehead where they were active members of the Eastern Yacht Club.
Jim is survived by his loving daughter, Kimberly Marks of Marblehead. He is also survived by three adored grandchildren: Andrew Bates, Colby Bates and Tyler Bates of Marblehead. In addition he is survived by four brothers: Richard Marks of Bonita Springs, Florida, Terrence Marks and his wife Nancy of Lynn, MA, John Marks and his wife Ellie of Amesbury, MA and Michael Marks of Lynn, MA.
A memorial service will be held at the Old North Church, 35 Washington Street, Marblehead on Saturday, August 3 at 10AM. Interment to follow in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Beacon Hospice, 100 Cummings Center, Suite 222C, Beverly, MA 01915. Arrangements by the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, Marblehead.
