
Born in Grafton, West Virginia on October 31, 1925, Marjorie was the daughter of Merle L. Madera and Anna M. (Hession) Madera. She grew up on the Fort Meade Army Post, one of seven children. As a member of the secretarial pool at Fort Meade, she met and married Major Kenneth Hayes and moved to Marblehead, MA.
Marjorie’s life was guided by her unwavering faith and love of family. As a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea parish for seventy years, her devotion to God and the church was expressed through a deep commitment to His ministries, as a Third Order Carmelite and through her many years of caring for the residents at both Lafayette and Devereux nursing homes.
Marjorie is survived by her two sisters, Sister Angela Madera and Nancy Gallagher and brother, Martin Madera. She is predeceased by siblings, Jane McTighe, Andrew Madera and Michael Madera. She leaves her six children, Constance Bromwell, William Hayes, Alice Hayes, Patricia Hale, Margaret Hayes and Jennifer Hayes. She was loved by 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held at Eustis and Cornell of Marblehead, 142 Elm Street on Tuesday, March 26 from 4-8PM. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead on Wednesday, March 27 at 10AM with burial to follow in Star of the Sea Cemetery, Marblehead. At Marjorie’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Christian Appalachian Project, (christianapp.org).
