Born and raised in Portland, Maine, Nancy graduated from Portland High School. At a dance at the Armory, she met the love of her life, John Ciccone, Jr., who was home on leave from the Navy—beginning a partnership that would span seven decades. In their early years, Nancy and John lived on various Naval bases as John advanced in his career, while Nancy devoted herself to raising their children. They eventually settled in Revere, MA, which became the family’s home base until moving to Marblehead in the early 1980s.
During those years, Nancy and John purchased Beden Hardware in Lynn, MA, where they worked alongside their two sons to build a true family business. Together, they ensured the store remained a place of reliable service while enjoying the gift of spending each day side by side. John and Nancy also created a home away from home at their lakeside cabin in Maine, a place that honored their roots, and became a gathering place for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchild, where countless summer weekends are still spent making memories on the lake.
A devout Catholic, Nancy was deeply committed to her faith and an active member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Marblehead. She was a Dame of the Holy Sepulchre. Nancy and John loved their pilgrimages to Medjugorje and the Vatican over their lifetime.
Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She came alive in the company of those she loved, whether at home or at the lakeside cabin. She enjoyed pontoon boat rides, good music, lively conversation, a glass of wine, and never turned down a piece of chocolate. Among her favorite traditions were family dinners at the home she shared with John—years of memories gathered around the dining room table on Sundays, holidays, and especially during the Christmas Eve Italian feast she looked forward to each year.
Nancy was the daughter of the late Enrico and Teresa DeSantis, and the sister of the late Mildred Thiboutot, the late Connie Giordano, and the late Robert DeSantis. She is survived by her brother Henry DeSantis of Danvers.
Nancy was the devoted mother of John Ciccone III and his wife, Liane, of West Peabody; the late Theresa Broderick of Marblehead; and the late Eric Ciccone and his surviving wife, Amy Ciccone, of Marblehead. She was the cherished grandmother of her adored grandchildren: Nicole McGintee and her husband John McGintee, Michael Broderick, Gabriel Broderick and his wife Sarah Broderick, David Broderick, John Broderick, Eric Ciccone, Adrienne Ciccone, and Annelise Ciccone. She was blessed with a great-granddaughter and a great-grandson on the way—news that filled her with excitement and pride. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was a loving “dog mom” to her faithful companion Jocko, who brought her great joy in her later years.
Nancy’s life was defined by love—love for her faith, for her family, and for the simple moments that made up a rich and beautiful life. She will be remembered forever for her strength, her warmth, and the way she made everyone around her feel cared for.
