Robert John “Bob” Cooper, age 83, of Marblehead, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021, with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Mindy Cook, with whom he shared almost 40 years of marriage.
Born on February 1, 1938 in Bristol, PA, he was the son of the late John and Ella (Drescher) Cooper. He grew up in Lawrenceville, NJ where he attended high school in Trenton. Bob entered the U.S. Coast Guard in 1958 and served during the Vietnam War, including one year posted at Kodiak Island in Alaska. His time spent in the Coast Guard changed the trajectory of his life. He became the first member of his family to graduate from college when he earned his BEE in Information Systems and Management Accounting from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, before later receiving his MBA in Finance and Business Policy from Harvard Business School. Upon graduation, he worked in several finance roles, before founding his own healthcare consulting firm, Analysis, Management & Planning, Inc. in Cambridge and later becoming the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Finance for the Cambridge Health Alliance, where he worked for almost 20 years. Bob remained active in retirement, representing various Boston-area healthcare organizations in political matters and completing home renovation projects at his house on the Cape.
A tireless reader and consumer of knowledge, Bob’s lifelong passions included business/finance, outer space, nature, current events, World War II, sports and home repair. He will be remembered for his magnetic warmth, selflessness, generosity, sense of humor, and most importantly his unwavering devotion to his family.
Bob was the cherished father of Christopher Cooper and his wife Shanti of Concord, and Jason Cooper of South Boston, and the loving grandfather of Lucinda Cooper.
The family has chosen to keep the services private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Doctors Without Borders or UNICEF, two of Bob’s favorite charities.
