Born and raised in Zalt Bommel in the Netherlands, he received his master’s degree in chemical engineering from the Technische Hoge School in Delft. After graduation, he immigrated to the United States, working as an engineer at several chemical process companies and traveling all over the world on business.
Most recently, he was employed at Stone & Webster in Boston, during which time he was an adjunct professor at Howard University in Washington, D.C. — one of the highlights of his career. During his retirement, he was a volunteer for North Shore Elder Services.
He was the son of the late Willem and Everdina van Lookeren Campagne, and the brother of Lous Vis and Emmy Plandsoen, both of Holland, and the late Ank Bouter. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Johanna Henriette van Lookeren Campagne; his daughter and her husband, Ellen Margaret and Stephen Fuller of San Ramon, Calif.; his daughter Henriette Campagne of Marblehead; his son and his wife, David and Sue Campagne of Corte Madera, Calif.; and his four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Sarah and Elizabeth Fuller and Nathaniel Campagne, all of California. He also leaves many nieces and nephews in Holland and the United States.
A private service was held at Waterside Cemetery. Donations can be made in his memory to All Care VNA & Hospice, 16 City Hall Square, Lynn, MA 01901. Arrangements by the Eustis Cornell Funeral Home.
