The family moved to Montréal in 1927, and after high school, Bill attended
Écoles des Beaux-Artes de Montréal. He moved to Manhattan to continue his art education at The Grand Central Art School, where he met his future wife, Dorothy (Anderson). They married in 1941 and returned to Montréal when Bill received a commission in the Royal Canadian Navy. He served in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, during World War II; then in 1946, the family moved to Mount Vernon, NY, and eventually settled in Westport, Conn.
Bill worked as a graphic artist throughout his professional career in Manhattan and Westport. He was passionately involved in the Westport Little League, managing teams for 16 years. He lived and worked in Marblehead from 1974 to 1976, and upon retirement, moved to Glen Cove, NY, where he enjoyed the companionship of Alice Sheppard for more than 30 years. When she died, he returned to Marblehead to be near his family.
He is survived by his two children, Lesley Anderson of Bridgeport, Conn., and Geoffrey Hodgkinson of Marblehead, six grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be private. In his memory, donations may be made to Marblehead Youth Baseball.
