Devona A. Foley

She was born July 18, 1923 in New Athens, daughter of Oliver and Elsie (Winkler) Laquet. On November 21, 1942, she married Francis J. Foley in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elgin.

Devona devoted her life to her family. Gardening and her farm were also passions for her. She was a licensed beautician for many years and enjoyed making people beautiful and happy. Later in life, she also worked at Warner Electric in Marengo. In her early years, Devona was a member of the award-winning Elgin Hawaiian Guitar Band and traveled with the band throughout the U.S. Her family and friends, music, dancing, entertaining and flowers were the focal point of her long and caring life. Devona was an active member for many years in the Rosarian Council at Sacred Heart Church in Marengo. Her loving smile and caring nature will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by her children, Susann (Melvin) Steffen of Poplar Grove, Michael (Linda) Foley of Woodstock, Phillip (Ellen) Foley of Marengo, Edward Foley of Fox Lake, Bridgett (Walter) Prewett of Glenview, Roberta (Robert) Dougherty of Chicago, and Ronald (Marisela) Foley of Marengo; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Eileen (Fred Sr.) Missele and Audrey (the late Albert) Gyorr.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; her parents; and her sisters, Dorothy and Carol Mae.

Friends and family may visit from 4 to 8pm on Friday, November 28 at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy (U.S. 20), Marengo, IL. There will be a prayer service at 8pm. The funeral Mass for our loving mother will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, November 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 N. Taylor St., Marengo, IL.

Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
