Edward Elliott Smothers, 79, of Marengo died Monday, November 9, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 5, 1930, in Huntingdon, Tennessee to William Luther and Bernie Melba (Mallard) Smothers. On November 18, 1950, he married Patricia H. Lotharius in Hazelpark, Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children, Peggy (Steve) Post, Larry (Cathy) Smothers, Jill (Rick) Betterly, Bill Smothers, Susan (John) Hunt, and Jim Smothers; his grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jamie, Brian, Greg, Laurie, Patricia, Shawn, Nina, Dylan Corey, Bianca, Lucas, Daniel, Edward, and Kellen; 10 great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Robert Jackson; and a half-sister, Jane Henry. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, David; a daughter-in-law, Delores; and a half-sister, Judy Counts. The visitation will be held from 10am to the 11am memorial service on Saturday, November 14, at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy., Marengo.
