Eunice M. Wright

Eunice was born Nov. 22, 1914, to Anna Shauer Yerke and Charles Yerke in Marengo. On June 29, 1937, she married Delos Wright, also of Marengo.

Eunice was a lifelong resident of Marengo until age 92, when she relocated to Wisconsin and soon after to California. She activley was involved with Zion Lutheran Church in Marengo throughout her life. She began working at the Marengo State Bank after graduating from high school, eventually becoming vice president. She mentored new hires there, and was generous with her time in providing customers with special assistance.

She had a wide variety of interests. She was a golfer, enjoyed playing the organ and was an avid Scrabble player. She took great pride and care in decorating her home, which provided a warm and welcoming gathering place for friends and family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and despite many of her commitments, always took time to help and care for those in need.

Eunice is survived by her daughter, Judy (Murray) Via of Irvine, Calif.; her grandchildren, Tay (Matthew) Franklin of San Francisco, Brett Via of Irvine, Tyler (Kim) Hylton of Bristol, Tenn., and Leah Hylton of Onalaska, Wis.; a son-in-law, Michael (Kathy) Hylton of Springfield; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delos Wright; a daughter, Connie Hylton; a brother, Milo Yerke; and her sisters, Mildred Palmer and Dorothy Brust.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at Zion Lutheran Church, 408 Jackson St., Marengo.
