Kyle Eugene Slaughter, 68, of Marengo, Illinois, went to be with his heavenly father on January 31, 2026. Born on November 2, 1957, in Belvidere, Illinois, Kyle was the beloved son of Adin Eugene Slaughter and Charlene Doris (nee Schmitt) Slaughter. He spent his formative years in Marengo, Illinois, and graduated from Marengo High School in 1975.
Kyle was deeply devoted to his family. Throughout his life, he would stand by his family through crises and joys; he had a knack for appearing at their sides just when they needed him. He was a pillar of support for his widowed mother and his disabled brother. His daughter was the apple of his eye, and he absolutely cherished his grandchildren. He adored little Ivy Rose and eagerly anticipated meeting Luka James.
Kyle was passionate about many things. He enjoyed cheeseburgers, Coca-Cola, and Swiss cheese, which he could consume in large quantities. He had a particular fondness for Peanut M&M's. He fell in love with cars at an early age and worked for many years detailing and delivering cars for Mecum's Auto. He even restored a 1971 Chevelle. A lifelong Cubs fan, he was ecstatic when they won the World Series on his birthday in 2016.
Kyle had a creative heart. An avid piano player, Kyle could play anything by ear. He could heal any soul through his music, often playing the song “Because He Lives” for his mother. He was also a talented photographer, capturing the beauty of nature that God created. He wrote poetry throughout his life, translating his thoughts and feelings into prose to carry him through the brightest and darkest times.
Kyle was known for his immense generosity and humility. A giver by nature, he would offer his last dollar to those in need and actively sought out opportunities to help others. He also did this through sharing his own experiences. Celebrating 35 years of sobriety, he was actively involved in Alcoholics Anonymous, serving as a sponsor to many.
A devout Christian, Kyle dedicated his life to spreading the gospel and was a prayer warrior for all but himself. He participated in mission trips and volunteered with his granddaughters at Feed the Starving Children Ministry. Kyle was a member of several churches, including the Methodist Church of Woodstock, the First Baptist Church of Marengo, and most recently, the Faith Community Church in Davis. He cherished attending men's bible study and enjoyed watching Christian movies, particularly "The Shack." His love of the Lord was boundless, just like the Lord’s love for him.
Kyle leaves behind a legacy of love and faith, survived by his daughter Kelli (Daniel) Stott; grandchildren Antonio (Piper) Figueroa, Natalyia Figueroa, Gianna Figueroa, and Skylar Stott; and great-grandchildren Ivy Rose and Luka James. He is also survived by his mother Charlene Slaughter, siblings Kathy (Dan) Cady and Kevin Slaughter, and nieces and nephews Jaimie Scudder, Tara Szkutnik, and Jason Cady. He joins in heaven his grandson Thomas Figueroa and his father Adin Eugene Slaughter.
A visitation will be held on February 5, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church, 320 E Washington St, Marengo, IL. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am, with the committal service at City of Marengo Cemetery.
If you take one thing from Kyle’s life, please remember that Jesus loves you, and “…that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” -Romans 10:9-10
