Nancy Porter Peters

She was born November 24, 1926 in Belvidere to Lynn and Ruby (Dale) Porter. On May 3, 1947 she married Ralph W. Peters in Belvidere.

After Nancy married in 1947 she and Ralph moved to Fairbanks, Alaska where they lived until 1952. They returned to Belvidere to raise a family of four within 10 years. Nancy then returned to college at NIU in 1965. Upon graduating in 1969 she began a career at Woodstock High School teaching English Literature. She retired in 1989. Nancy was an avid Cubs fan. She also enjoyed the companionship of her dog, Sadie.

The family would like to thank Kathryn and Peggy for the wonderful and loving care they provided to Nancy.

She is survived by her children, Kim (Doug Scott) Roberts, Katie Kelly, Kelly (Larry) Woyach, and J.D. (Carole) Peters; her grandchildren, Shane (Tara) Karlson, Aarik Karlson, Caitlynn Kelly, Paige and Jenna Woyach, Josh and Mark Peters, and Jess Stieneke; her great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, and Logan Karlson, and Julie and Nick Karlson; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents; and her two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11am on Saturday, January 24 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6821 Main St., Union. The service will be at 11am.

Interment will be in Garden Prairie Cemetery.
