MARENGO – Roger Price, 68, of Marengo, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born December 5, 1944, in Farmer City, the son of Lorenzo Dow and Evelyn Marie (Brown) Price.
On November 22, 1969, he married Linda in Downers Grove. Roger was a devoted husband to Linda his longtime love and best girl for 43 years. Together they raised a loving family of two girls Shannon Linda Price of Marengo and Allison Nell (Price) Muench of Capron, and one boy, Travis Roger Price of Union.
Roger was a High School All-State Guard in basketball averaging over 25ppg and an All-Conference End in football at Moore High School in Farmer City. He attended Parkland College in Champaign. Roger was an avid sports fan that loved watching his daughter, Allison run cross-country, his daughter, Shannon play tennis, his grandson, Anthony play baseball, his grandson, Hunter play basketball, and his son, Travis wrestle. Roger and Linda never missed a high school sporting event of their children’s. Roger was his son’s baseball coach and was always referred to as, “Stat-Man” by his players and friend, Bill Raether, because of his up-to-date stats and attention to details. Roger was always up for a game of H.O.R.S.E. or P.I.G. with his family. Roger also enjoyed the Rockford River Hawks Minor League Baseball, the Chicago Bulls, and watching the Chicago Bears with his son-in-law, Jake Muench.
Roger loved spending time with his family. Roger was a true outdoorsman that loved pheasant hunting, rabbit hunting, camping, fishing, boating on the Mississippi River, and a good s’mores made by his grandkids, Grant and Ava, around a campfire at his daughter-in-law, Rhianna’s.
Roger was a veteran of the Navy during the Vietnam War and was a 2nd Class Machinist Mate on board the CVS-18 USS WASP Aircraft Carrier. He was a member of “RUSMOC,” a task group off the USS WASP that retrieved the astronauts from the Gemini GT-4 mission. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion.
He was a retired Construction Senior Superintendent after 35 years that built numerous skyscrapers and complex projects in the Chicagoland Area, Florida, and Indiana.
Roger was a well-rounded individual. He had a knack for being able to fix anything, was detailed, and always took a hands-on approach. Roger’s father, Lorenzo (an entrepreneur mechanic) passed down many skills to him. Continuing tradition, he passed on that knowledge to his family members, which was received with much appreciation and is cherished to this day.
God blessed Roger and his family with a wonderful friend, Bob Richardson “BobaLou.” Bob was there through thick and thin and never gave up. Roger’s family would also like to say thank you to Crossroads and the Centegra ICU in Woodstock for keeping him in good hands.
“You left the earth but heaven has gained an Angel. We love you Papa.”
Roger is survived by his wife, Linda of Marengo; his children, Travis Roger (Rhianna) Price of Union, Shannon Linda Price of Marengo, and Allison Nell (Jake) Muench of Capron; his grandchildren, Anthony Matthew Kirchhoff of Marengo, Hunter Jacob Muench of Capron, Grant Travis Price of Union, and Ava Rhianna Price of Union; his sister, Rosalee Price of Champaign; and his dear friends, Bob Richardson, Bill Raether, and John Bernardo.
