Nora C. Bourbeau

Born in NYC on 5/6/29, Nora passed away peacefully in her home on 4/14/22 surrounded by family. Nora was predeceased by her mother, Honora Powers (Counihan) and father, Thomas Powers. She was also predeceased in 1959 by her husband, Vincent P. Beni, and in 2003 by her husband, Ronald Bourbeau.

Widowed at age 30, Nora is survived by her five children: Vincent Beni (Michele), James Beni (Patricia), Eileen Short (Eugene), Robert Beni, and Patricia Eagles (Richard). She was very proud of her grandsons, Richard and Robert Eagles. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was a very strong mom; however, given her circumstances, she did her absolute best to provide for her children.

While raising her children and after, she was a valued clerical employee at the Kennedy Home in Bronx, NY and Glendale Federal in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where she moved in 1969, retiring in 1993. She was an active member of the American Legion Post 157 in Margate, FL. She was highly regarded by the Post members as well as by her childhood friends from St. Luke’s parish in the Bronx, many of whom have also moved to Florida.

Fiercely independent, Nora loved everything Irish and was a championship Irish step dancer as a child. She was exhilarated by her final trip to Ireland in 2019 where her children surprised her with a newly installed headstone on the previously unmarked grave of her grandparents.

A Celebration of Life is planned for May 21, 2022 at Eileen and Gene's House (5124 NW 27th Court, Margate, FL 33063) at 11:15 am, followed by a reception at American Legion Post 157 (1791 Mears Pkwy, Margate, FL 33063).
