Born on January 27, 1931, in Sarrebourg, France, Alice spent her early childhood in Europe and experienced the hardships of World War II firsthand. As a young girl, she showed a compassion far beyond her years, often sharing food with prisoners of war-a small act that reflected the deep generosity that would define her entire life.
She later immigrated to the United States from Germany and, in 1974, made her home in Marietta, Georgia, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, and community. A devoted Catholic, Alice was also a faithful attendant of Milford Baptist Church and an active participant in the Red Hat Society, where her vibrant personality and love of fellowship shone brightly.
Alice was the beloved wife of Elmer Gordon Brigance, with whom she shared 48 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they cultivated not only a loving home but also a remarkable garden that became a symbol of their partnership. Elmer would grow the food, and side by side, they would spend countless hours canning, peeling, and preparing meals-not just for themselves, but for anyone in need. For Alice, food was more than nourishment; it was her love language. Through every dish she prepared, she gave a piece of her heart.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Elmer; two children; three grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also lovingly remembered by her extended family in France, with whom she shared a close bond, and by countless friends and loved ones who were blessed by her kindness.
To know Alice was to experience her generosity, her unmistakable style, her contagious laugh, and her bold personality. She had a way of making people feel seen, cared for, and welcomed. Her home-and her table-were always open.
Above all, Alice wanted to be loved. And for those who truly knew her, that love was returned fully and freely. There was never a moment wasted in showing her just how deeply she was cherished.
Alice will be profoundly missed, but her spirit lives on in every meal shared, every story told, and every act of kindness inspired by her life.
