

Annette Smith Brown passed away on August 11, 2023. She was born September 24th, 1938, to Gladys and Carl Smith in Marietta Georgia and attended Marietta City Schools, graduating from Marietta High School as a Co-Valedictorian in 1956. She graduated from Carson-Newman College in 1960 with a degree in Church Music and Pipe Organ. She was given an Honorary Degree at Campbellsville University in 2014. She was a pianist and organist at Crestview Baptist (Gracepoint-Marietta) from the age of 14 until she went away to college, and she was the pipe organist/ music associate at Marietta First Baptist Church from 1961 until she retired in 1997 after 37 years of service. She served as an interim organist on 3 occasions and played for numerous weddings and funerals. In 2005, she was named Organist Emeritus at Marietta First Baptist.
Annette married Reid Brown on April 14th, 1957, and was married for 66 years. Together they have three children – David, Tim (Karen), and Melody (Scott Hess). They have five grandchildren – Courtney (Pearson Clark), Jessica, Ryan, Matthew and Rebecca Brown; and three great grandsons - Ryder and Nash Brown, and Oliver Clark.
She was a member of Marietta First Baptist Church and the Mary and Martha (M+M) Sunday School Class. She taught English as a second language in the Church’s English School. She also taught piano and organ to numerous children and adults in Cobb County.
Visitation will be held at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 15th from 5-7 pm, with a celebration of life service in the sanctuary of Marietta First Baptist Church at 11am on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the music ministry at Marietta First Baptist Church (180 Church Street, Marietta Ga 30060).
