

Charles graduated from Campbell High School in Smyrna in 1956. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Carson Newman College, his masters from the University of Georgia, and his 6th year Certificate from Mississippi State University.
He began his teaching career at Elizabeth Elementary School in 1961. Later, he served as Assistant Principal at Osborne Junior High School and Principal of McEachern Elementary School, Harmony Leland Elementary School, and Hollydale Elementary School. He later served as Supervisor for Human Resources and Supervisor for Government Spending for the Cobb County Board of Education. He retired in 1991 with 30 years of service.
Charles was a member of First Baptist Church Marietta where he served as a deacon and active choir member. He was a member of the Lost Mount Golden K Kiwanis Club, where he was selected as Kiwanian of the Year in 2001. He was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.
Charles was predeceased by his wife, Jane Ballenger Sanders, and survived by his son, Charles W. Sanders, Jr (Linda) of Sylvania, GA, son, Rodney D. Sanders (Lynn) of Kennesaw, GA, grandchildren Ashleigh Driggers (Taylor), Nick Sanders (Allison), Jonathan Purvis (Madison), Lindsay Purvis, Aleksandra Morales (Tito), Austin Sanders (Hannah), Bryce Sanders (Crystal), Libby Sanders, and 11 great grandchildren.

A family graveside service will be held at Kennesaw Memorial Park.
Mayes Ward Dobbins Historic Marietta Chapel will be in charge of arrangements.
