

WILLIAMS, Velma Elizabeth Ballew Williams, 85, of Powder Springs, Georgia, died on June 3rd, 2016. She was born January 25, 1931 in Fairmount, Georgia to Oliver Claude Ballew and Ostra Velma Neal Ballew. She graduated from McEachern High School and attended West Georgia College, where she unabashedly beat the boys at tennis more often than not. She married Jere P. Williams in 1953 at First Baptist Church, Marietta Georgia. Elizabeth worked for a short while as a secretary for Lockheed before entering into her lifetime professions of homemaker and secretarial support for Jere’s real estate business. As a member of Powder Springs First Baptist Church, Elizabeth served as an integral part of the Home Bound ministry. She taught the “Joy Seekers” Sunday School class for years and continued as a member and the Corresponding Secretary.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jere, her sisters Mary Olive and Vera Jo, and her brothers Madison, Neal, and Travis. She is survived by her brother Lanier Ballew of Carrollton, and sister Virginia Anne Greene (Charles) of Marietta; son Barry Williams of Powder Springs, GA; three daughters Angela Green (Tony) of Bowden, GA, Janet Brani (David) of Marietta, GA, and Lauren Williams of San Diego, CA; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Wounded Warrior Project or to the Music Ministry of Powder Springs First Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Monday, June 6, 2016 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Powder Springs, GA. The Family will receive friends from 2:00PM – 4:00PM on Sunday and 10:00AM – 11:00AM prior to the service on Monday.
