

He spent his childhood growing up on a farm with his family in South GA. Growing all kinds of fruits/vegetables in the garden with his parents and siblings. This became a tradition carried on to the younger generations of his children and nieces/nephews every summer!
He started his college career at UGA where he met the love of his life of 48 years, Linda. After earning his Engineering degree at Southern Tech and MBA at Georgia State University, Larry had a very successful 35 year career as a Management Information Systems Engineer. In addition, Larry had global experience in multiple areas of the IT life cycle across industries including Communications, Insurance, Healthcare, Public Utility, Financial Services, and Government. He had a strong background in IT and SEI Software Engineering / CMMI Methodology Project Domains including systems integration, performance improvement, business process re-engineering, and application development. He was a known communicator recognized for keen initiative, creativity, and resilience. He had an excellent reputation for building trusted partnerships and delivering high-quality, business-valued results.
Upon retiring he got promoted to become a “professional Pa” for his 4 grandchildren!
Larry spent his life worshiping his Lord and Savior and serving his community through his church and being a phenomenal husband and father. He coached many years of Upward Basketball, was the photographer for the track and field team at Hillgrove High School where his daughter, Lindsey, coached, and he was an avid runner himself. He also participated in multiple triathlons throughout Georgia.
In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by their 2 daughters Lindsey Tackett and Lauren Carroll (Bryan); 4 grandchildren, Luke and Lahna Ann Tackett and Landon and Logan Carroll; 4 siblings, Lane Tyus (Fritzie), Margaret Anne Gaines (Jesse), Linda Summers (Jeff), and Jeff Tyus (Robin). He is also survived by 4 nieces and 5 nephews, and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Franklin and Margaret Tyus.
The family would also like to express their deep appreciation to the caring staff and healthcare professionals at Peachtree Creek Memory Care and Autumn View Hospice for their support and care during this last year. We truly knew there were angels among us, taking care of Larry every day!
A visitation will be scheduled for Sunday, August 25th at 2:00pm at Roswell Street Baptist Church in the Worship Center and a Celebration of his Life Service will follow the visitation at Roswell Street Baptist Church on Sunday, August 25th at 3:00pm in the Worship Center. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Larry’s memory to Midway Covenant Christian School (in memory of Larry Tyus)- 4635 Dallas Highway, Powder Springs, GA 30127.
