

WARREN, Vera Jo Ballew Vera Jo Ballew Warren, 87, of Austell, Georgia, died on January 4, 2016. She was born October 2, 1928 in Fairmount, Georgia to Oliver Claude Ballew and Ostra Velma Neal Ballew. She graduated from McEachern High School, where she met John Roy Warren. They played tennis and basketball for McEachern, went on their senior trip to Niagara Falls, and married in 1948. She attended West Georgia College, then supported John as he completed his degree from Georgia Tech in 1953. John and Jo were married 62 years. Vera Jo loved sewing, calligraphy, gardening, painting, traveling, going with John to Georgia Tech football games, corresponding with friends and family members, and spending time with her grandchildren and her "Buddy-flies." She volunteered with Girl Scouts and for her children's school activities. She was a faithful Presbyterian, serving as a deacon and Clerk of the Session at John Knox Presbyterian Church and holding several offices with the Women of the Church and Presbyterian Circles. She co-authored a history of Cherokee Presbytery in the 1970's. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved John in 2010, her sister Mary Olive, and her brothers Madison, Neal, and Travis. She is survived by her brother Lanier Ballew of Carrollton, sister Elizabeth Ballew Williams of Powder Springs and sister Virginia Anne Greene and husband Charles Greene of Marietta; daughter Beth Warren Carter of Wilmington, NC; daughter Amye Richelle Warren and husband Randy Cagle of Chattanooga, TN; and son John Robert Madison Warren and his spouse Christopher Bunthoff of Roswell, GA. She is also survived by grandchildren Katherine Elise Ballew Carter Fiddelaar, Rachel Jackson Carter, and Andrew Warren Cagle. Vera Jo will be best remembered for her boundless energy, her smiles and laughter, her kindness and selflessness. She displayed a genuine interest in and concern for others, treating every person she met with respect and compassion. She was the social hub of the entire extended family and the data repository for all family genealogy, birthdays, anniversaries, addresses, and phone numbers. But most importantly, she was an extraordinary mother, grandmother,daughter, sister, wife, and friend. A celebration of life will be held at Presbyterian Village in Austell Georgia at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 9 at the Village Center (2000 East-West Connector).
