A fulfilling and long life of 102 years. She was born on December 23, 1922, at the home of her parents in Starkville, Mississippi.
She was known for her generosity, her infectious smile and her unwavering determination. She was a member of MILLEDGEVILLE FIRST METHODIST CHURCH, and shared her joy of knowing JESUS CHRIST. She loved her family, and trips to the beach and mountains. Traveling with her daughter, she visited YOSEMITE, HAWAII, GREECE, and rode in a covered wagon on the OREGON TRAIL in WYOMING. She was recently able to hold her first great grandson, and described it as a precious gift.
After earning degrees in elementary education and art at MISSISSIPPI state college for women, she taught at schools in MISSISSIPPI, TEXAS, and VIRGINIA. She met her husband of 54 years while she was in college and he was enlisted in the AIR FORCE. They married in 1944 and had 2 children.
She remembers well the the GREAT DEPRESSION, the JAPANESE attack on PEARL HARBOR, and having the first TV in her neighborhood. She always had a story to tell.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ora and Charles Barnett, her husband Thomas Cartwright, her son Gary Cartwright and her sister Frances Booth.
She is survived by Daughter Carol Ballew (David), Grandson Parker Kemp (Christina), great Grandson Bradem Kemp, Brother Franklin Barnett, and several nieces and nephews.
She wishes to Thank the staff of the FELLOWSHIP HOME at MERIWETHER, as well as beloved caregivers Annie, Amanda, Kitty, Lori and Addie
