Ann Mays Harrell

Ann Mays Harrell, 84, of Martinsville passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. She was born in Martinsville, Va. on July 20, 1934 to Martin Luther Mays and Blanche Stone Mays. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, William Stone Mays, Robert Lee Mays and Thomas Dodd Mays. She is survived by her husband, Roy Gilbert Harrell of Martinsville; her daughter, Pamela Dean Harrell of Richmond; honorary son and daughter, Doug and Melanie Payne and their two daughters, Jennifer and Kimberly. Mrs. Harrell graduated from Martinsville High School in 1952. She retired from Continental Can Company in 1982 after working there for 30 years as a cost/accountant. She attended Starling Avenue Baptist Church since 1936 and has been a member since 1944. She taught Sunday school and served on various committees. Mrs. Harrell was a member of the Martinsville Exchange Club and served as past President of the Exchangette Club for two years from 1984 to 1986. She was also a member of the Tuesday Bridge Club and the Wednesday Club until her health declined. A memorial service will be held at Starling Avenue Baptist Church on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor T. Dodd Mays officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Starling Avenue Baptist Church, 932 Starling Avenue, Martinsville, VA 24112 for future projects or building and grounds at the Church.
