Callie Compton Carter

Callie Heilda Compton Carter, 87, of Martinsville, Virginia, died Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at her home. She was born in Ridgeway, Virginia on July 30, 1928 to Cole Smith Compton and Annie Minter Compton.

Mrs. Carter retired from Bassett Walker. She was a long time member of Grace Baptist Church and recently became a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church along with her son.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her first husband, Aubrey Oakes and her second husband of 60 years, Cecil Morris Carter; Sisters, Hattie Compton, Patty Parliere, Onie Wilson, Lottie Parker, Lois Todd; Brothers, Earnest and Tommie Compton.

She is survived by her son, Denzil M. Carter; numerous nieces and nephews, along with many great and great great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 13, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at McKee-Stone Funeral Home-Martinsville Chapel.

The Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Reverend Richard Harrison officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park .
