April 20, 1930, to Josiah James Abram Foley and Mary Pencie Joyce Foley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Lucian “Bub” Roach, Jr., 7 siblings and a beloved daughter-in-law, Carolyn Martin.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary L. Martin of Boones
Mill and Sherri Freeman of Springfield, Va.; sons, Elmer Martin Jr. and Larry Martin of Martinsville, and Reverend Robert Martin of Kernersville, N.C.; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
Dorris was a 1947 graduate of the old Bassett High School
where she was on the basketball team and was a member of the GLEE Club. She retired from Kmart in 1994 where she worked in the accounting department.
Dorris loved people and never met a stranger. She was a
member of the Bible Baptist Church of Collinsville where taught Sunday School and participated in all church activities and trips. She loved family gatherings. Some of her favorites things to were art, gardening, crochet and beach vacations. She also
enjoyed selling her arts, crafts, canned food and her famous fried
apple pies at local flea markets.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at McKee-Stone Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm and will be officiated by
Reverend Raymond Moorefield. Special music and vocals will
be provided by her dear friend Patsy Arrington. Interment will follow in the Foley Family Cemetery in Patrick County.
Her pallbearers are from three generations and will be her sons, Larry and Reverend Robert Martin; grandson, Barry Hughes and grandson-in-law, Reverend Tim Gross, and her great great-grandsons, Elijah Jacobs and Evan Farmer.
