In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim Greene Clary and William Lee Clary; sisters, Bertha Mae Clary and Betty Ruth C. Hall.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol E. Clary and his son, James Stephen Clary (Sheila); grandchildren, Chad Flanagan (Jennifer) and Matthew Clary; great grandchildren, River and Lanier Flanagan; brother, Leonard G. Clary; sisters, Ethel C. Johnson and Mable V. Clary.
He was a dedicated long-time member of Trinity Friends Church where he served faithfully in many different capacities. He loved his family, as well as his church family, and he loved reading his Bible.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Dupont after 28 years of service. Following his retirement, he became a very committed member of the North Carolina Friends Disaster Service, where he responded to natural disasters all over the country. He had a strong belief in helping others and he freely gave of his time and resources to help those in need.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed working in his yard and garden. He also loved to walk.
The family extends special thanks to the staff at Kings Grant Retirement Community and Mountain Valley Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Mr. Clary in his last days.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 pm to 12:50 pm on Friday, July 11, 2025, at McKee-Stone Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home and will be officiated by Pastor Ron Hill. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
