Evelyn Stone Holmes

Evelyn was the daughter of the late William Thomas Harris and Bessie Mullins Harris.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Stone, Sr.; daughter, Dixie Lee Stone; and brother, Roger Harris.

Surviving are her husband, John Holmes; son, Roy Stone, Jr.; daughter, Marilyn Vaughn; grandchildren, Chas Vaughn, Will Vaughn, Sr. (Meredith) and Evie Speight (Andy); great-grandchildren, Will Vaughn, Jr., Harris Vaughn, Sally Vaughn and Cameron Speight; sister, Nell Oxley; and niece, Donna Dillon.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the caregivers who cared for Evelyn over the last several years of her life. They include Rosetta Peatross, Darlene Akers, Alice Swanson, Mary Scales, Vanessa Gravely, Alishia Carter, Garnett Jones and Elizabeth Pegram. The family also appreciates the wonderful assistance provided by Mountain Valley Hospice.

Evelyn was a member of First United Methodist Church, Martinsville, VA. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A funeral service for Evelyn will be conducted at First United Methodist Church, Martinsville on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Keith Ritchie officiating. A private ceremony of internment will follow the service at Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at First United Methodist Church, Martinsville, VA on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Martinsville, VA 24112.
