Hoyte Leon Nelson Sr

Hoyte Leon Nelson, Sr., 76, of Spencer, died Monday, June 17, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Patrick County, October 31, 1936 to Walter Holmes Nelson and Pearl Ellis Nelson, both deceased. Hoyte was a graduate of Hardin Reynolds Memorial School in Critz and retired from DuPont with 32 years of service. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and a former member of Mayo Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He was also a member of Spencer Ruritan Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Darryl Nelson.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joye Hylton Nelson of the residence; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Darryl Dalton of Ridgeway; a son and daughter-in-law, Hoyte Leon Nelson, Jr. and Debbie of Spencer; 8 grandchildren, Katie Poole and husband, Matt, Justin Nelson, Adam Nelson, Bailey Dalton, Hylton Dalton, Chasity Nelson, Olivia Nelson and Shelby Nelson; 3 great-grandchildren, Makayla Poole, Grayson Poole and Tyler Nelson; 2 sisters, Arlene Conway of Danville; Louise Stone and husband, Clifford of Bassett; 1 brother Ellis Nelson and wife, Ethylene of Spencer.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 2 PM at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Clyde Murray and the Rev. Francis Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Mayo Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at Hillcrest Baptist Church and other times at the residence.
