Jacqueline Ann Scott of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away on February 2, 2026, at the age of 83. She was born on June 12, 1942, in England, United Kingdom, to the late Jack Darby and Winifred Lily Mae Hulbert.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rodger Scott, and her son, Christopher Minter. It is heartbreaking that she passed away on the same day as her daughter, Kathy Gay Smith.
Jacqueline’s legacy lives on in her devoted son, Mark Minter, and his wife, Debbie; 6 grandchildren, Darby Minter, Zachary Minter, Scott Minter, Robert Minter, Joshua Minter, and Jacqueline Minter; 6 great-grandchildren; and 3 precious cats, Lilac, Squeak, and Malcolm.
She was a powerhouse in her professional life, serving as the Director of Advertising for the Martinsville Bulletin. She brought a bit of British spirit with her wherever she went and could often be found enjoying a cup of tea and her favorite cranberry scones. In her spare time, she was a world-class “bookworm” and was especially fond of her flower garden. Her greatest devotion may have been to her three "furbabies," Lilac, Squeak, and Malcolm. These rescue cats weren’t just pets; they were her constant companions, and she loved them with the same fierce, loyal spirit she brought to everything else in her life.
A Memorial Service for Jacqueline and her daughter will be held at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, 109 Broad Street, Martinsville, VA, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM. A reception at the funeral home will follow the Memorial Service.
In honor of Jacqueline’s and her daughter’s lifelong love for animals, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to: Angels of Assisi, 725 Franklin Rd, Roanoke, VA 24011.
A Special Note for Her Furbabies:
Jacqueline was a passionate advocate for animals and leaves behind three very special companions: Lilac, Squeak, and Malcolm. These three rescue cats were her world, and they are now looking for new, loving "forever homes" where they can be cherished just as much as she cherished them.
