

Lonnie Lee Hopkins, 84, of Beckham Church Road in Axton, died Monday, February 7, 2011 at Select Specialty Care in Greensboro, NC. He was born in Mocksville, NC on December 20, 1926 to Lonnie Phillip Hopkins and Emma Flora Leach Hopkins. He served in the Army during WWII and was employed by Roy Stone Transfer Company for 43 years as a truck driver and later for Bassett Fiber Board for 13 years. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and the Axton Life Saving Crew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Agee Hopkins; a son, Phillip K. Hopkins; and a sister, Clara Mae Hopkins.
Surviving are five daughters, Mary Lee H. Barbour, Phyllis Ann H. Trull, Julia Marie H. Thomas, Lisa H. Hurrell and Jessica Elizabeth Hopkins, all of Axton; one sister, Ruth Louise Sowers of Kissimmee, FL; five grandchildren, Donna Palmer, Michelle Noell, Amy Kellam, Brian Thomas and Gordon K. Hopkins; four great-grandchildren, Austin Cannaday, Justin Cannaday, Blaize Gilbert and Kaitlyn Kellam; three step-grandchildren, Gerald Thomas, Jessica Trull and Kelly Trull; three step great-grandchildren, Bryan Gravely, Trevor Kellam and Brandon Thomas.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11:00 A.M.at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel with Rev. Don Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with military honors.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone, Martinsville Chapel and other times at the home of Lisa and Lee Hurrell, 1210 Beckham Church Road in Axton.
