

Mildred Highfill Turner, 91, of Axton, died Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, NC. She was born in Rockingham County, NC on September 2, 1920 to Walter Smith Highfill and Mary Wilson Highfill.
She was a long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Bassett.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Gertrude Martin, Beatrice Highfill, Ruby Pitts, Kate Robertson and Mary Lea; two brothers, Thomas Highfill and Garland Highfill.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Henry Clay Turner of the residence; one daughter, Betty Turner Roach of Axton; one son, Gene Smith Turner and wife Mary Jane of Axton; one grandson. Henry Aalbert Turner; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Blake Turner and Payton Elizabeth Turner; three sisters, Gladys Russell and Josephine Parrish, both of Mayodan, NC and Agnes Purdy of Reidsville, NC.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Bassett with Dr. Isaac McDuffie and the Rev. David Towler officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville and other times at the residence.
