I thank God for the privilege of knowing and working with one of the finest men I've ever known...

The most remarkable pastor I’ve ever met.  Baptized me and my daughters, prayed for my family during my mothers Illness and eventual passing.  Visited our home often and once took of his suit jacket to help me plant flowers.  So down to earth, so humble and so loved by his community and church🙏

A true man of GOD,  He was so kind and understanding to so many and never had a bad thing to say. He was my husband Grandmother Dora Cook Pastor. She really loved him and  I know his family is heartbroken my prayers go out to everyone who knew him. His daughter and wife He was most proud of and his grandkids too.

Memories go away back.  When you were still in Tn.  Your girls were small and so were my boys.  We had a lot of good times together.  Short trips to. The Smokies, to Watauga Lake.  To many revival’s together.   Too many funerals.  Such memories.  Carolyn and I prepared meals for us to share time together. 
Our God is good….All the time.  
Nikki, Cindy this is not an easy time but you both known God and hold his hand. It’s amazing what he does for us everyday.  He knows your dad too.  Please hug Carolyn for me! My friend along time ago

Lawrence and Carolyn became my Mom and Dad’s best friends while at Brick Christian Church! My Daddy, Bruce Curde, loved Lawrence like a brother! He was such a powerful preacher in a easygoing, laid-back way, if that makes sense! His actions spoke louder than any words ever spoken by a man!  My sister reminded me of one of their running jokes…..”cow patties”!  We’ve lost so many good men/women in the past few years! Our loss is truly heaven’s gain! I’m sure Daddy, Herb and Lawrence hugged big and slapped each other on the back when Lawrence got there! God hold and comfort you all, Carolyn, girls and family! We love you and will be praying!

Like everyone else who had the pleasure of getting to know Lawrence, I could write a book about what a super nice and down to earth guy he was.     Both he and Carolynn helped me dearly in getting through the tough times prior to and after my parents passed.  I will be forever grateful that I had the pleasure of getting to know Lawrence and  his family.   Lawrence Harris certainly left this world a lot better than he found  it through his lifelong commitment to help others. He leaves his family with a great name and wonderful legacy.

Lawrence was a really good man.  He not only was a great pastor but a good man.  The Lord has truly taken a angel for us all.  

He came to hospitals , not just the ones close by, but those of a distance.  He came to give prayer even though the person wasn't of his church family. We all will miss him.



Lawrence was a wonderful man and loved by so many! He was a man of integrity and one you could always count on. My life was blessed by knowing him and  him being an important part of my life. I cannot begin to imagine how many lives he touched but he definitely touched mine!!!! 

I was so sorry to learn of "Preacher Harris'" death.  He was such a sweet, kind man.  He officiated my wedding at Brick Christian Church, Watauga, Tennessee in 1972.  Nikki and Cindi were little girls, and I was much younger!  I got to see Preacher Harris a few times through the years.  He was always the same.  Always happy to see me and get me caught up with how his family was doing.  I know how much you will miss him, because he was special.  I know there was a large group of the older members of Brick Christian anxious to see him once again -  especially my grandparents, Bob and Cora Larimer, my mom, Mary Lou Massengill, and my precious Jennifer!

Carolyn and family, I was so sorry to hear of your loss. I will never
forget that Lawrence visited Ted and  I when we first got married (1962), and lived in Siam, and invited us to church at East Side. We would have gone but West Side was my home church and that is where we attended and I still do. Ted went to be with Lord 6/24/20 and was a faithful elder at West Side Christian Church.  Jimmy, our son, was in school at Happy Valley Elementary with you daughter. We have fond memories of your family and will keep you all in prayer.

I always thought so much of Lawrence.  Anytime I would run into him whether it was at the hospital where he was visiting or just out and about, he always stopped and chatted.  He was a delightful person.
My best goes out to Carolyn (such a lovely lady) and her family.  He is with his Lord now and I know he is having a great time.  Much love.

Mr  Lawrence Harris was such a great pastor and a very loyal Christian.   I will always remember his visits to Museville Christain Church.   Everyone here loved him.   We at Museville loved his  wife Carolyn too They were so dedicated to their faith and each other.   My sympathy and prayers go to all the family. It is with great sorrow to hear of the death of a friend and fellow christian Lawrence Harris. All of us at Forrest Hill Christian Church loved him so much. Our prayers go out to Carolyn and his children. I just loved to listen to him talk whether is was a sermon, or story or reciting a poem. The way Lawrence spoke was so soft and easy and he just made you feel like he had known you forever. And his laugh, he would laugh about what he was speaking about before finishing the story. But, above everything else I remember about him was his sincere love for the Lord. You could feel it when he spoke. He touched many lives and souls and I'm just  thankful for having known him as a Godly man.

Lawrence and I were cousins in the flesh but brothers in the Spirit of Christ. We shared many wonderful experiences in the revivals we were privileged to conduct.  He and Carolyn enjoyed a great marriage and together touched many lives. He leaves a legacy that will be long remembered and sowed seeds that will bring forth much fruit.

I was honored to know him. So glad he came to JCC on several occasions to hear him preach. Great preacher, husband , father, granddad, and friend.

My prayers are with Carolyn who celebrated their 60 wedding anniversary in Nov. and the entire family.  Lawrence was a friend all and brought countless people to know the Lord.  He baptized my mom in 1974 and my dad around 2006.  His candlelight service was always inspirational.  He was a pillar of the foundation at Stone Memorial Christian Church,  whichhe cherished.  He was a dear friend and my "Pope".  He is surely receiving his rewards with the Lord.

Lawrence Harris was a awesome pastor, Christian and friend to my family and all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers to Carolyn, Cindy, Mikki and the rest of the family during this time. He will be greatly missed by everyone!

I came to know Lawrence when he was a member of our youth group at the Lilly Dale church in Erwin, Tennessee. He and his parents were among the most genuine people of faith I have experienced through my years of pastoral ministry. All reflected the gift of humble and compassionate hospitality and were profoundly supportive of me, their young student pastor.
Through the years I have played memory tapes of my time with Lawrence and, though our journeys took us in different directions and places, I continued to treasure the everlasting bond that formed between us during those years in the decade of the l950's. I firmly trust God's promise to guide Lawrence in his eternal destiny which began on earth, and now, continues in Heaven.  James D. Bailiff

Lawrence Harris was a wonderful pastor and friend.  He always had kind, comforting words for my family, as well as everyone else he encountered. 
 My Mom and Dad,  James and Alma Townsend, as well as
 Lawrence are all from the small town of Elizabethton, Tennessee .  They all later moved to Martinsville, Virginia,  and formed a very strong bond.  Lawrence’s  knowledge of the Bible and kind strength and love has been a great source of comfort to our family in times of grief and hardship.  
Our friend and pastor Lawrence Harris will be greatly missed.  My family offers comfort, love and friendship to Lawrence’s family in this time of grief.

I didn’t think my first post shared…so I wrote another one only to find out the first one did go through.  Sorry…but, he was so special to us that we could write MANY posts about him. :) :). Just wanted to let you know why if you see more than one post. Love you all

Mr. Lawrence was SO very special to us as we know he was to ALL that knew him.  Christ shined through this very humble, sweet man of God.  We will miss him so much here…but, are so thankful for the promise Christians have as told in II Cor. 5:8 knowing he is in the presence of the Lord. :) As I told him daughter Mikki…I can hear him reciting that beautiful poetry now.  Mr. Lawerence did my father in law’s funeral and I know they are rejoicing in the presence of the Lord together.  Oh how special he was.  We love you all and have you in our hearts.   We know you have so many precious memories.

Lawrence was a wonderful, caring, transformative man. He was so a man of God and had such an empathetic, soothing, 
Positive, caring way about him at all times. 
I loved his smile. He was always there for my family and I will miss his presence on Earth, but know he is home in Heaven.  Sending love to Lawrence’s family.  Lawrence will always be remembered.

He was very special to my family as a friend and pastor. He had such an endearing heart and gift with words that comforted people. I remember him conducting my grandparents funeral and could feel the love he had for them as he talked about them. I felt he was genuine in everything he did and so dear to my family.

Lawrence was such a precious kind man/minister and we all will remember him with his sweet poems and a favorite of mine was The Masters hand/violin.
